Landscape, Ecology & Trees
The proposed landscape strategy has been informed following a review of the landscape context of the Site. The landscape proposals have sought to build on this – creating an attractive landscape framework for development, with the retention and enhancement of existing landscaping on the Site.
In accordance with Local Plan policy SAP22, the layout has kept any tree removal to a minimum. The revised scheme will remove 33 trees less than the previous scheme (a 39% reduction) and where tree removal is required, there will be substantial and additonal planting across the Site (approximately 120 trees), including creating a woodland area to the north-east. The existing woodland will be proactively managed to improve the number of tree species and provide more opportunities for ecology and wildlife.
A landscaped area is provided between the homes and the proposed access to reduce any visual impacts of the development from Sandown Road.
A reptile mitigation area is proposed to the south-east.
The proposal will deliver greater than 10% Biodiversity Net Gain.
